Welcome to the 36th year of Rockwall Women's League! As I enter my eighth year of service as a RWL member, I am humbled when I think of all the women who have served before us and all those that will serve after us. The thousands of volunteer hours we've worked and the millions of dollars we've raised have helped shape our community and have forever changed many lives.
This year, we look forward to enjoying what have become favorite
traditions like the Christmas luncheon at Maggianos and baking cookies for families attending the Rockwall and Heath Christmas tree lightings.
Also, be sure to save the date for our annual Fall Social at Galaxy Farms in Heath on October 3rd. Jami Frisby and her committee
have a party planned that is guaranteed to be fun for all.
We are introducing some new ideas such as a classified advertising section within our newsletter and an Associate of the Year Award.
Our Ball Chair, Lisa Johnson, is bringing the Ball venue home to
Rockwall this year to the Hilton Bella Harbor on April 10th. Also, in response to the changing demographics of our membership, the Executive Board has decided to hold three of our nine general meetings in the evening this year to better accommodate our
members who must take time off from work to attend our daytime meeting.
The first of these will feature an Antique fair as our program and
is planned for Wednesday October 14th at 7pm. Experts will be on hand to evaluate the treasures we bring from home.
There will be a slight change in our active membership requirements this year. Four of our 20 hours of community service will be required to be served in our gift shop, the Wishing Well, at Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall which is owned and managed
by RWL. Active members will no longer be required to deliver
three meals on wheels each year, although we encourage you to continue to volunteer for this much needed and valuable service which ensures that senior citizens in our community receive at least one hot meal a day.
"To whom much is given, much is expected." After some reflection on that verse, I've come to at least one conclusion: we rock!
I am both honored and proud to serve as president of this great organization for the coming year.
Thank you for all you do and all you give to make Rockwall County such a wonderful place to call home!
